I am opposed to the development of a convention center for our area. Convention tourism is not consistent with our style of family vacation tourism. We do not have nor do we want the large hotel development that would be needed to support a convention center.
Convention centers, almost universally require tax dollars to support their operation, tax dollars we don't have to spare.
I propose using the soundside property currently identified for a convention center as open space, for passive recreation and sound access rather than pave it over for convention parking. This property could be the first deposit in a "land bank" that would benefit future generations in Dare County and Nags Head.
